The pioneering work of a Keighley charity for young disabled people will be revealed to millions across Yorkshire in the New Year.

Independent Living Keighley (ILK) is to feature on Yorkshire Television's Community Link programme on January 20 following the evening news.

The short programme will highlight the work done by the organisation, which runs a house in Fellbrigg Avenue known as 32 for young disabled people who want a taste of independent living.

A camera crew visited the house in Fell Lane to capture the charity's innovative work in action.

Co-ordinator Daniel Werges says: "The programme focuses on the work of community groups in the voluntary sector so they can get in touch with people across the Yorkshire region.

"It will let people know what we are doing here and provide information about what we can offer.

"We are trying to promote and let young people know about the opportunities provided by ILK."

The organisation provides young disabled people with the chance to live on their own, with support from volunteer helpers.

The aim is to provide a stepping stone that will help them go on to lead independent lives.

Earlier this year residents at 32 found themselves on the other end of the camera when they made their own video called Go Your Own Way, which showcased the work of ILK.

"It has been an exciting and challenging year and we have experienced lots of changes," adds Daniel. "We finished the promotion video and with funding from the housing association we are giving the house a facelift."

Two people are currently living in the house, with seven volunteers providing assistance.
