Ian Holmes (left) took revenge over Robert Hope in the Auld Lang Syne fell race.

The top fell running duo have a personal battle for supremacy after Hope won the Stoop race for the second year. He set off at a cracking pace on New Year's Eve, but came unstuck as Holmes overtook him on the initial climb and pulled out a 400-yard lead.

Andy Peace was third and Steve Oldfield won his seventh Over-40 title.

Heavy conditions meant most times were below previous years, but ladies winner Lucy Whittaker of Saddleworth was on top form finishing in 45:20, after winning the Whinberry Naze Dash in a record time on Boxing Day, and second placed Sharon Taylor beat her previous best to finish in 47:24 despite falling in heavy mud.
