DOUGIE LAMPKIN is in action on Saturday as he tries to claim an eighth successive victory in the Embassy World Indoor Trials Championship at Sheffield.
Lampkin has won the event since it was launched in 1996. Competing at Sheffield always adds extra pressure, but this year it has extra significance as he lost the overall 2002 indoor title that he had held for five years.
He was also pushed into second place at the opening round of this year's campaign in held in Andorra.
Seven of the world's top riders will be in action at Sheffield with in front of an 8,000 capacity crowd.
Lampkin won the annual Boxing Day event at Howden Wood after a close battle with Graham Jarvis that ended in a low scoring but tough finale to the world champion's outdoor season. "That is the end of the trials year for me. The next time I ride in England will be at Sheffield where I aim to win again.
As for next year, I may ride the Spanish championship, nothing is settled yet" said Dougie.
Nick Jefferies again defeated the strong Clubman class on his five year old Montesa machine. "I took it in as a trade-in maching and am slowly bringing it up to the latest specification," he said.
Silsden motor engineer Richard Spencer was beaten for second place by Chesterfield visitor Nick Pearson while Howarth specialist welder Gavin Thornton made a rare appearance to take fourth spot. In the Expert class James Dabill was placed sixth and won the Youth award while his younger brother Joe was second in the Youth clubman class.
