AS one reader wrote this week to point out, Craven is either 'wet, wet, wet' or 'white, white, white' at this time of year and further dislocation of Craven & District Football League fixtures is inevitable.
The reminder from the House on the Hill is timely, for the most recent deluge looks certain to put some games at risk tomorrow because of waterlogged pitches and the odds are that more games than last weekend will be lost if conditions have not improved dramatically in the second part of the week.
Weather permitting, some interesting fixtures are on the cards for the start of 2003, with the meeting between Skipton LMS and Embsay probably the match of the day in the Premier Division, with both teams needing maximum points to keep on the trail of Oxenhope, who themselves will have to be positive against Cononley Sports.
At the other end of the scale a meeting of the bottom clubs Skipton Bulldogs and Carleton should be interesting, although Sandylands is highly unlikely to be fit.
In Division One, Lothersdale Athletic face a tough start to the New Year when they visit Colne Shepherds, with both teams needing to win. The meeting between Embsay Reserves and Bradley is also going to be vital for both teams.
In Division Two, leaders Chatburn look to have an easy task at home to Skipton Bulldogs Reserves, but Barrowford United face an in-form Skipton LMS Reserves in a match again neither can afford to lose.
Division Three sees the leading teams at home and really all could be classed as home bankers, with the top three of Bradley Reserves, Grassington Reserves and Cononley Reserves all strongly fancied.
Tomorrow's programme includes:
Premier Division: Bronte Wanderers v Cross Hills, Grindleton v Grassington, Keighley Lifts v Intake, Oxenhope Rec v Cononley Sp, Skipton Bulldogs v Carleton, Skipton LMS v Embsay.
Division One: Colne Shepherds v Lothersdale Ath, Embsay Res v Bradley, Hellifield Sp v Bronte Wand Res, Waddington v Oxenhope Rec Res.
