Housing in the Bradford Metropolitan District was given a £20 million boost today, with the announcement of new spending limits for the coming municipal year. The district has been given an allocation of £20.1 million for its housing needs in 1978/9 - one of the five West Yorkshire councils which will get the lion's share of a £198 million allocation to the Yorkshire and Humberside region.

Mrs Ada Bastow of Springbank Place, Manningham, Bradford has had a birthday treat - a five-minute telephone call from 6,000 miles away. The caller was her 26 year-old married daughter, Mrs Winifred R. Wroe, who rang from Salisbury, Southern Rhodesia, to send greetings.
