A pensioner was threatened in his home by three men who stole cash.
The incident happened between 6pm and 6.30pm on Thursday at the house in Priestley Square, Birstall.
A man entered the house and told the 69-year-old man he wanted to test the water. The pensioner got him a glass of water from the kitchen but became suspicious and said he was going to ring the police.
Two other men them came down the stairs and threatened him before taking money in a tin. The man was left uninjured but shaken.
Police are looking at possible links to a similar crime in Middlegate, Birstall, on Wednesday evening, when an elderly couple were disturbed by a man who said he had come to mend the boiler.
He also had an accomplice and, after searching rooms, stole the woman's handbag.
Sergeant Steve Wogan, of Dewsbury police, said: "Keep doors locked at all times and be wary of anyone knocking on the door asking to do jobs.
"My advice would be not to let them in and if you are suspicious, call the police."
Anyone with information is asked to call Dewsbury CID on (01924) 431085.
