City are casting an eye over Sweden under-21 international Ola Tidman.

The twice-capped goalkeeper, 22, will spend next week training with the Bantams.

Tidman, who began his career with Malmo, is contracted to Belgian club RAA Louvieroise but is desperate to make it in English football.

He was due to start with City yesterday, but is suffering from tonsillitis and will now be coming over on Sunday. Tidman had a trial with Tranmere Rovers during the summer and played in friendlies against Vauxhall Motors and Southport.

And last month he trained at Premiership Bolton. City boss Nicky Law said: "He's just coming in for a few days so we can have a look at him. He has been recommended to us by an agent."

The Belgian league is in its month-long winter break until January 18. La Louviere, as his club are known, are currently 12th in the top flight.

Even if Tidman does impress, it would seem unlikely that any immediate deal could be done given City's current financial situation. They are still trying to find a compromise with Dunfermline over the £25,000 appearance money they owe the Scottish club for Andy Tod.

Law is short of goalkeeping back-up for Aidan Davison. He hopes to have Gary Walsh back soon after five months out with a knee injury. Walsh could be available for the next reserve game at Everton, although that has been put back a fortnight to January 29 because of City's FA Youth Cup tie against Luton next week.

Law said: "We're keeping our fingers crossed that Walshy is on the way back."

Teenager Nicky Beach will continue on the first-team bench against Crystal Palace on Saturday. He was also due to play for the reserves at home to Bolton tonight although the game was in serious doubt because of the frosty weather.

A morning pitch inspection was being held but officials were not confident.

City have already used up six of the eight short-term loans clubs are allowed for the season. They could also bring in up to four longer-term deals but the money is not available.
