Stars at Silsden Methodist Church have raised £385 for the Candle-lighters over Christmas. Over two hundred silver stars were sponsored to adorn a Christmas tree in the church in memory of people who had died. Each star was dedicated to someone and messages of remembrance were written on the back.
The church decorating team - Lynnda Smith, Enid Hyde, Jill Geary and Christine Shimmin - was thrilled at the success. Mrs Smith says: "It's really affected everybody, even people outside of the church have got involved. It has meant a lot to so many people.
"It has really been more successful than we could have hoped and raised a lot of money for a really good cause."
Mrs Hyde adds: "It's gone beyond all our expectations and it's likely that we'll do something like this again as people have been so keen." The stars will now be burned and the ashes will be sprinkled at the Amnesty memorial gardens.
