Embassy 'A' issued a 'hands off' warning to any team contemplating an attempt on their status as Keighley & District Table Tennis League Champions with a crushing 10-0 home win against Terriers 'A'. Captain Neil Foley started with a 21-16, 21-12 defeat of Mark Emmott followed by wins against Stuart Myers 21-12, 21-9 and Paul Beck 21-10, 18-21, 21-17. In fact Beck was the visitor's best performer, unlucky to follow this defeat in three with carbon copies against Carl White 21-8, 20-22, 21-15 and Tony Boyd 21-14, 18-21, 21-15. Myers also came very close against Boyd before losing 16-21, 21-9, 28-26 and then White and Boyd finished off the whitewash 17-21, 21-13, 21-19 against Myers and Beck in the doubles.

Terriers looked to be heading for a similar hiding the previous evening away at Lothersdale 'B'; however in game two Lothersdale's Peter Midgley, 21-18, 4-0 up against Stuart Myers, pulled up with a serious leg injury and, unable to continue, was forced to concede three rubbers to the visitors. As if to make up for the lack of their team mate, David Galley and Martin Connolly pulled out all the stops to see off their fellow basement battlers by winning all the other points to emerge unlikely 7-3 winners. Along the way Galley accounted for Mark Emmott 16-21, 21-10, 21-13 and Connolly defeated the once more unlucky Paul Beck 16-21, 21-18, 21-16 before they teamed up in the doubles to defeat Beck and Myers 21-14, 21-16.

In Division Two Nemesis 'B' retain a healthy 14 point advantage over Ilkley Road 'A' following their 8-2 home win against St Peters. Tim Moran was on excellent form with his treble including a 6-21, 21-12, 21-18 win against Richard Foster and another against Tony Richardson 14-21, 21-18, 21-10. Dave Manogue emulated his team mate but it was close against Foster with the Nemesis player just edging it 22-20, 21-19. The visitor's points both came against Tom Sampson who lost to Richardson 21-18, 21-19 and Foster 21-18, 18-21, 21-18, before Moran and Manogue hit back for Nemesis to edge the doubles 15-21, 21-18, 23-21 in a thriller.

Although currently occupying a relegation place, Stockbridge Spartans played well at mid-table Embassy 'C' and were unlucky to be on the wrong end of a 6-4 scoreline. For the winners, Jack Parkman only just got the better of Ryan Foulds 21-14, 16-21, 22-20 and Dennis Foulds 21-18, 22-20; Diane Lackie defeated Dennis Foulds 23-25, 21-17, 21-11 and Badie Jacob also got the better of Dennis Foulds before beating Ray Wallace 21-14, 11-21, 21-16. Points for the Spartans came from Wallace, 21-11, 21-10 and 21-13, 21-12 against Parkman and Lackie respectively, plus a couple for Ryan Foulds that included a 21-16, 15-21, 21-10 defeat of Jacob. However, the win was sealed for the Bingley team by Parkman and Jacob with a 21-8, 21-16 doubles win against Wallace and Dennis Foulds.

The battle between Ilkley Road 'A' in second and Lothersdale 'C' in third spot resulted in a good home win for the Riddlesden team. Roy Towler stretched his unbeaten run to four matches even though Richard Crookes pushed him all the way before losing for the second time to the only player who has defeated him in Division Two this season 21-18, 16-21, 21-10. Geoff Bartlett almost did the same, but despite defeating Jack Anderson and Martin Mulligan he didn't quite have enough in the tank, agonisingly going down to Crookes 21-19, 18-21, 21-19 who also picked up a 21-15, 21-17 win against Steve Barton. Bartlett got the better of Mulligan 21-17, 21-15 before teaming up with Towler to beat Crookes and Mulligan 21-9, 21-11 in the doubles. A 14-21, 21-16, 21-19 win for Barton against Jack Anderson ensured a 7-3 win for the home team.

In Division Three, Crossflatts 'A' in second spot were unfortunate to only be able to field two players when they entertained Haworth 'B'. However, despite this handicap the cricketers came away with a 6-4 win thanks in no small part to the tenacity of John Patrick who won all three rubbers in the decider, 21-16 against Tom Hagyard, 21-19 against Ronnie Farrar and 21-8 against David Ogden. Team-mate Ben Hinchcliffe also played well for a full house in which only Farrar caused him any real concern with a 14-21, 21-17, 21-16 scoreline.

Players are reminded that the Keighley Championship will take place on Sunday 9th February. Anyone wishing to enter may do so by contacting Peter Holbrook directly. However, entry forms will also be sent out to Team Secretaries for distribution to team-mates in the usual way.
