Dozens of animals were killed in a fire which gutted a Bradford pet shop today.
Fire crews attending the blaze at Pets For Life on Tong Street found rabbits, mice, gerbils, parrots and parakeets dead.
Station officer Glenn Brown, of Odsal Fire Station, said crews were called at about 3.30am today by staff from a nearby takeaway.
Firefighters from Odsal and Bradford put out the serious blaze on the ground floor.
"We also searched two flats above the pet shop as a precautionary measure to make sure they were unoccupied," he said.
Station officer Brown said fire investigators were probing the cause of the blaze and their accelerant detection dog might be used as part of the investigation.
A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said they were investigating the blaze and inquiries were ongoing.
