City are waiting for Football League confirmation on a new date for the Crystal Palace home game.
They are hoping the authorities will agree to move the postponed clash to next Wednesday to generate much-needed income.
Under league rules, clubs must fit in re-arranged games at the earliest opportunity.
But Palace are understood to be opposed to January 22 because of their FA Cup fourth-round tie with Liverpool four days later.
City will tonight find out whether they have a game on the next FA Cup weekend.
Should Grimsby lose their third-round replay at Burnley, City face a relegation crunch at Blundell Park on January 25. The match was originally called off on New Year's
Day because of a waterlogged pitch.
