City are set to unleash Ashley Ward on Rotherham again.
The injury-hit striker was back in full training today and could be in line for a welcome return to action at the weekend.
Danny Cadamarteri and Jamie Lawrence have also stepped up their running as Nicky Law's injury problems show signs of easing.
But the prospect of Ward leading the line against the Millers would be a huge boost in City's bid to make it four wins in the last five league matches.
Ward has not played since November 2 when he suffered knee and ankle injuries at Brighton. His comeback was hampered last month by a damaged calf.
He worked with fitness coach John Roe yesterday and was ready for the all-clear to join in with the rest of the squad.
City's top earner has scored only two goals all season - and both came in the 4-2 home win over Rotherham back in August.
Law feels Saturday's return fixture would be the ideal moment for Ward to blow away the frustrations of two months stuck in the treatment room.
The City boss said: "After what he did to Rotherham here it could be a good psychological thing. Wardy won everything that day against their defence.
"It's a game when you need a strong presence like that. Rotherham are a physical sideand you've got to be able to match them in that department."
Cadamarteri also has an outside chance after allowing the tendinitis in his knee to settle down.
Law added: "We'll have to see if Danny has any reaction to the running. If not then he could be a possibility.
"It would give us greater options but obviously both strikers have missed a long time.
"Running is fine but it is no substitute for matches and unfortunately the reserves haven't got a game this week again.
"Wardy is naturally fit and we wouldn't have any problem putting him straight back in if he feels all right. But it's a matter of monitoring them over the week and seeing how they go."
If Cadamarteri does have to go under the knife, a knee operation would rule him out for the rest of the season.
Lawrence suffered sore ribs in the win over Stoke on Boxing Day. He is more likely to be ready for the following week.
