Busmen at Keighley caused chaos for nearly four hours last night after they refused to take buses from the bus station after the suspension of a driver. John Feather was suspended after he refused to drive a bus he claimed was mechanically unfit, said a West Yorkshire Road Car spokesman. About 180 of his colleagues on the late shift stopped work in support.

Whipping with a birch rod for men convicted of personal violence is proposed in the Criminal Justice (Amendment) Bill, the text of which was issued today. It proposes that where a sentence of whipping is imposed, the instrument used shall be a birch rod: in each case the court in its sentence shall specify the number of strokes to be inflicted: and such whipping shall not take place after the expiration of six months from the passing of the sentence.
