A 12-year-old boy who suffered a massive electric shock from railway power cables was today recovering at home.
The youngster received a 25,000 volt shock in the incident at Shipley station on Saturday afternoon. It is thought his life was saved because he was standing on a plastic milk crate at the time.
He was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary with up to 20 per cent burns but it is understood he was released yesterday afternoon and today was being cared for at home.
Today PC Brian Heaton, of British Transport Police, repeated his warning about the dangers of playing near railway lines.
The boy and his friends had not been on the tracks, but it is thought the 12-year-old touched the overhead power lines using a domestic cable.
Pc Heaton said they were not major vandals but added: "If one of the other lads had been touching the boy who was electrocuted at the time, then they would both have been killed. They are all very shocked at what has happened."
Today British Transport Police officers are continuing to investigate the incident.
