Police are probing the mysterious death of a 34-year-old man who died following a break-in at a house in Skipton.

Keith Timms, who died at his home in Gargrave on Saturday, is believed to have had links with a burglary at a house in Skipton the previous day.

A post-mortem examination has been unable to pinpoint the cause of Mr Timms' death and detectives are awaiting toxicology tests.

Skipton police Acting District Commander Tad Nowakowski said a post-mortem was held on Monday and the outcome was "inconclusive".

Detectives recovered a number of items at the dead man's home which had been stolen from the house in Gargrave Road, Skipton, on Friday.

They included cash and some jewellery.

Officers are investigating a break-in at about lunchtime on Friday in which a man was disturbed burgling a house in Gargrave Road, Skipton.

The householder had arrived home and noticed items at the house had been disturbed, and then found the intruder hiding behind a cupboard, said Mr Nowakowski.

"A householder disturbed a man in his home on Gargrave Road, stealing property," he said.

"After a struggle and a chase, the man eventually escaped.

"At 7.30pm on Saturday, January 11, an ambulance crew was called to a house in Gargrave where they found the body of a 34-year-old man. A post-mortem examination was inconclusive and we are now awaiting results of toxicology tests, but there were no obvious injuries which caused the death.

"Items recovered from the house in Gargrave indicated a link with the Skipton burglary."

Detectives were continuing their inquiries and the North Yorkshire Coroner had been informed. He had opened and adjourned an inquest and a full hearing would take place at a date to be fixed, he added.
