PLANS for more housing in Pool-in-Wharfedale have been strongly criticised by the parish council.
The outline plan for housing on Arthington Lane has sparked anger among councillors who are worried about more developments in an already well-developed village.
Grantley Developments Ltd have submitted the plan to Leeds City Council for the development, but because it is an outline plan, the exact number of houses is not known.
The properties would be built on farmland on Arthington Lane between Pool C of E School and The Wharfedale pub in Arthin-gton.
Councillor Ailsa Bearpark said: "This site was highlighted as being suitable for a development in the UDP however it is a green belt and there has never been anything built there before.
"A highways report produced in anticipation of permission being sought and it refers to other planning applications which have taken place in Leeds in similar circumstances and it says there is no problem and no danger of traffic on Arthington Lane and it is perfectly suitable.
"The parish council have consistently highlighted the danger to pedestrians and I would recommend that the council object on two counts.
"One is that we should not agree to any development until and unless traffic measures are installed. Secondly it is a green belt site and the council has a policy to develop brown belt first."
Parish councillor Gary Pellow added: "It is a dangerous road and I don't care what experts tell us."
The parish council will now write to Leeds City Council with their objections to the plans.
