ONLY two games survived the weather in the Keighley & Aire Valley alliance League, but they provided plenty of excitement with a total of 19 goals being scored.
The Fleece (Cullingworth) played only their sixth game of the season and entertained Cavendish on their new ground at Harden. A strong wind played almost as big a part in the game as the players and Fleece took advantage of the wind at their backs in the early stages.
They stormed into the attack and their efforts were soon rewarded when centre-back Paul Hart opened the scoring from a 20-yard shot. At the other end Fleece's keeper was enjoying a quiet morning and had to make only one save in the entire 45 minutes while David Robinson, and Phil Poole (2) made it 4-0 at the break.
The game appeared to be sealed but once Cavendish had the wind advantage they pumped long balls from the back and started to cause the Fleece defence major problems. They scored three goals within 15 minutes to take the score to 4-3.
Fleece fought their way back into the game in the last 10 minutes, but could not secure victory until injury time when Phil Pool completed his hat-trick and secured the 5-3 win. Referee Colin Myers had an excellent game in difficult conditions.
In the only other game of the weekend Wilsden Villagers and Old Sun Oaklee drew 6-6, but no details of the game are to hand.
