Keighley and Craven Athletic Club ladies took overall Silver in the final race of the West Yorkshire Cross Country League held at Cliffe Castle on Saturday.
Before the final race the local ladies were in third place just behind Holmfirth, but they were determined to improve their overall position.
"I wanted to give the athletes a course to remember in this final race of the series. Parts were still frozen solid but other bits through the wooded sections were ankle deep in mud," said Club Chairman and course designer, Pete Carr.
Liz Tomes led the local ladies to Silver, finishing in 10th place with a time of 22;57. International, Jo Prowse was second home for Keighley and Craven in 23:38. Other team members included Tizz Wolfenden 23:54, Cath Fawcett 26:02, Kaisleigh Greenham 26:15 and Rachel Sharples 27:06. Bingley had already won the men's team title and the Keighley and Craven men also performed well but just failed to get into the medals, finishing the series in fourth place overall. Darren Brame was first home for K&C finishing in eighth place in 30:52, just ahead of team mate Zip Jones (31:02). Other K&C runners included Lawrence Helliwell 32:49, Damien Scholes 32:50, Johnny Butler 34:17, Paul Hindle 36:17, James Callaghan 37:01, Mick Ward 39:31, and Arthur Leng 47:51.
