The management team at Keighley College has every right to be ecstatic after being awarded the ground breaking contract to help young people learn new skills.
Once again it is an example of the forward thinking of this area and of pioneering partnerships which will be eventually rolled out nationally.
Under the five-year contract youngsters aged five to 16 will be given tuition during evenings, weekends and during school holidays in engineering technology and construction. They will include youth groups such as the Scouts, Brownies and Guides.
The college has already worked with the Scouts and Guides showing skills such as bricklaying, carpentry and joinery. Absolutely great.
It is a far cry from the days when girls did domestic science and boys did woodwork or metalwork at school. The college had identified a need for such skills, put a programme in place, and spent six months working up a bid for £1.7million, which has now been awarded by Yorkshire Forward.
It is as the college says a fantastic example of different groups working together to provide innovative and creative education for young people.
Here's to greater success.
