Industry, hard work and a great Stewart Airdrie finish helped Guiseley take a point against champions-elect Alfreton Town.

Exacting revenge for their cup hammering earlier in the season, Neil Parsley's men twice came back from behind to earn a 2-2 draw with the ill-disciplined league leaders.

On a freezing afternoon at Nethermoor, fans were treated to an eclectic game of football offering moments of high drama separated by large periods of midfield scrapping.

From the outset the visitors were clearly the more talented outfit, but a lack of shape and composure was brought on by the efforts of the home side.

Displaying all the tenacity, hard work and endeavour that served them so well on their FA Cup run, Guiseley were not prepared to let Alfreton have an easy ride.

The visitors were lucky to take the lead from a Steve Johnson flicked back-heel volley after a penalty area scrap but the West Yorkshire side quickly came back into it, having an Alan Bailey effort ruled out by an assistant referee's flag.

Although he was entirely correct in this instance, all three officials were guilty of a series of misjudgements which were disrupting the flow of the game.

But just before the break Guiseley's James Nettleton slipped a header in

off the underside of the bar to level things up.

The final minutes of the first half were spent with the home side well on top with hard-working striker David Cooke unlucky with a clever chip on the turn.

Just two minutes into the second period, Peter Atkinson's lack of composure led to a corner which Johnson headed in at

the back stick to restore Alfreton's advantage

Then followed half-an-hour of uninspiring football with no real skill or imagination on show from either side.

But just as the home fans were turning their attentions to a cosy night in with Ant and Dec, Bailey fed Airdrie, whose rampaging run finished with the ball being crashed past the outrushing Ross

Turner into the top right-hand corner of the net."
