Bobby Vanzie will think hard about his future this week after his world title dream was crushed.
Bradford's British lightweight champion was floored five times by Russian Yuri Romanov before their WBO title eliminator in Preston was halted in the eighth round.
It was only Vanzie's second loss in 27 paid-for fights but he admitted: "I've never been beaten like that either as an amateur or pro. It's such a big shock and it's going to hit me hard."
Vanzie plans to lock himself away as he decides where to go next.
He struggled to make the weight and may look to step up a division to light-welter - where he fought his first six outings. Or he could decide to hang up his gloves.
Vanzie said: "Fighters lose, Lennox Lewis loses, Tyson loses and I just hope the Bradford people know I can come back from this.
"I don't know whether this is the end, it's too early to say. But I am a proud guy and just sorry that I let a lot of people down.
"My wife Angela is four months pregnant and I've got to make some serious decisions. I have to make sure I can provide properly for my family whether it's inside or outside the ring."
Vanzie is due to defend his British title against Jon Thaxton next. But after Saturday, it seems unlikely he will try to get back to a weight that is clearly no longer comfortable.
He added: "I've come to a crossroads now. You can only go to the well so many times and my body has told me that I can't do lightweight after six years at it."
