Millionaire house buyers flocked to take a peek inside Ilkley's two hottest properties.
West Grange in Ben Rhydding and Heber's Ghyll in Ilkley are the latest in a string of million pound-plus properties in the district. They are on the market for the princely sum of £1.4 million and £1.6 million respectively and were open to public viewing on Saturday.
Heber's Ghyll is a six-bedroom Tudor-style mansion set in three acres of secluded mature wooded grounds which oozes privacy, luxury and spaciousness. It is built on three levels, has six reception rooms and boasts its own tower and Victorian spa. It has a sweeping private drive with electronically operated gates and its own stream.
Little more than a mile away is West Grange, a newly-constructed six-bedroom family residence, also on three levels and with five reception rooms. It has a floor space of 5,800 sq ft and an annexe with a lounge and bedroom en-suite and astounding views of the Wharfe Valley.
After donning the blue plastic carpet protectors on their shoes, potential purchasers were shown around the properties, built by developers Crosby Homes, and many were impressed by what they saw.
Tracey Waterhouse, from Heath, near Wake-field, visited West Grange because her sister lived nearby and was interested in the property.
"It is huge - a lot bigger than I expected," she said. "There is an extra ground floor which is a real bonus and a lot of space for kids to run around. It's beautiful and surrounded by stunning scenery."
Mandy Nichols, of Ben Rhydding, also visited West Grange. "It is expensive for its size," she said. "If you compare square footage for an apartment in town it is very expensive, but the garden is impressive.
"I could see myself living here."
Robert Knowles, 60, of Addingham, was not as convinced. "For the price of this, you could have a Grade I listed building with 20 acres somewhere else," he said.
"It does look nicely built, but there could have been more attention to detail such as bevelled glass in the doors."
Lisa Smith, 29, of Gomersal, visited Heber's Ghyll with her husband Andrew, 33, and two young children to have a good look.
"I don't think it's worth the money," said Mrs Smith. "It doesn't have a very child-friendly garden as it's on a slope.
"We are looking for something of similar size, but are not interested in buying this."
David Waddington, Crosby Homes sales and marketing director, said: "Heber's Ghyll is set in a wonderful woodland environment and has an almost enchanted quality about it. West Grange offers sweeping views over the Wharfe Valley."
But all buyers (and any lottery winners) should bear in mind that West Grange is estimated to cost £52,000 to completely curtain!
