Jamie Lawrence is still in Nicky Law's plans despite talk of a possible switch to Walsall.

The City midfielder (pictured) believes he could soon be on the move.

But the club are hoping that nothing comes of the transfer hints as Lawrence's tough tackling is a key weapon in their battle against the drop.

Law admitted that Walsall boss Colin Lee had been in touch but nothing had so far developed.

Law said: "Several weeks ago there was an inquiry but at that stage Jamie was injured and I didn't think too much of it.

"I spoke to Walsall again at the back end of last week but I'm not aware of them making an actual physical approach for Jamie.

"There is nothing agreed and until such time as that may happen Jamie remains a Bradford City player. And I'm pleased to have him here."

Lee is staying coy about any move for Lawrence.

He said: "I know about Jamie Lawrence but we've got no money to bring anyone in."

Losing the tigerish Lawrence would be another blow for Law, particularly if he was to move to a relegation rival. Walsall are currently only two points above City in 19th spot.

The Black Country club could be in the market for a new signing after losing Gareth Ainsworth back to Wimbledon following a recent loan spell. Spaniard Roberto Martinez is also poised to join Swansea.

Reading were rumoured to be interested but yesterday they completed the £250,000 signing of

midfielder Steve Sidwell from Arsenal. Stoke are also believed to be tracking the Jamaican international.

With Lawrence out of contract in the summer, he would be allowed to go for free.

But it seems unlikely Law would see much of the cash from the reported £4,000-a-week wages City would save. Any money would instead be ear-marked for paying off the creditors.

Lawrence, who missed three months at the start of the season with a broken leg, is back to full fitness after cracking a rib during the Boxing Day win over Stoke.
