Bradford Council was today finally ruling on which Bradford old people's homes stay open - and which will close.
The move comes after Bradford Council sought the views of those affected of proposed closure of a number of pensioner homes in what it said was a bid to help older people get better care in the community and remain among their families "with greater privacy, dignity and independence."
But the plans to close Greenacres in Clayton, Broadstones at Holme Wood and either Meadowcroft at Bowling or Woodward Court sparked outrage and came at a time when the Social Services department was £3 million in the red - leading to accusations of cost-cutting.
Now Broadstones, at Holme Wood, and Woodward Court, at Thornton, both appear to be safe - a decision likely to be rubber-stamped by this afternoon's Executive Committee. The future of Meadowcroft at Bowling will be reviewed in 18 months but Greenacres at Clayton will stay open only until all the residents have been moved out.
Campaigners have vowed to fight on and were attending this afternoon's meeting.
