Kevin Sharp, whose appointment as Yorkshire's batting coach will be confirmed later today, is "thrilled to bits" to be returning to his native county.
The former Bradford and Bingley and Farsley batsman, who lives at Sandy Lane, will finish his job as director of cricket at Bradford-Leeds Universities' Centre of Excellence next Friday - and report to Headingley the following day.
"In a couple of weeks' time the new Yorkshire kit will be arriving and to be putting on a White Rose sweater and cap again means an awful lot to me," said Sharp.
"I cannot describe how excited I am to be filling this new post. Ever since I left Yorkshire in 1992 I have worked as a coach and step by step I have been moving towards fulfilling my ambition of returning to first class cricket and to Yorkshire.
"I know most of the first team lads and not only are they a first rate bunch of guys but they also possess lots of talent. There are so many good players there that I think we are bound to do well and I hope that my experience will be of some benefit to them."
Sharp, who was put in charge of the ECB-backed Centre of Excellence when it was started two years ago, conducted one-to-one coaching sessions with Anthony McGrath last season and he has been helping out at Headingley during the winter.
Sharp's appointment is being rubber-stamped at Headingley today by the club's Management Board, which will also discuss who will replace Darren Lehmann as captain. If a decision is reached, the new captain will be unveiled at a press conference tomorrow.
