ANOTHER taxi driver is recovering after being attacked and robbed in Skipton in the early hours of Sunday morning.

This is the second Skipton taxi driver to be attacked in two weeks but police say there is nothing to link the two incidents.

At about 3.25am on Sunday a driver from Skipton Taxis picked up a fare in Skipton Bus Station.

The car travelled through the town to Roughaw Road. The 48-year-old driver claimed he was hit around the head and sustained swelling and bruising to his face and cuts to his hands.

The attacker grabbed the taxi driver's takings and fled. The taxi driver raised the alarm by banging on the doors of nearby properties.

A police spokesman said the driver had been left shaken and upset by the incident.

On Monday morning a 21-year-old Skipton man was arrested at his home. He was questioned by officers and charged with robbery later the same afternoon.

He was bailed and will appear in Skipton Magistrates' Court on January 29.

The police spokesman said there was nothing to link this week's attack with the assault on a Skipton taxi driver on January 5.

During that incident a passenger pulled a knife on the driver and held it to his throat. He demanded money and escaped into the woods near Aireville School.
