Bradford council is launching a crackdown on dog owners who allow their animals to foul Cliffe Castle grounds in Keighley.

Owners caught failing to clean up the mess face court action, council officers have warned.

And the news has not come soon enough for young mum Sarah Lazenby, from Minnie Street, Keighley.

The 19 year-old says she has to negotiate mounds of dog dirt whenever she visits Cliffe Castle with her toddler, Rosie. She is angry that her two year-old cannot play in the park without stepping in filth.

And often when she arrives back home from an excursion in the park, she has to wash Rosie and her pram.

Ms Lazenby is calling on dog owners to clean up after their animals.

And she wants Bradford council to be more vigilant in keeping the play areas clear of dog dirt and to provide special bins.

She said: "I'm just sick of it. I take my daughter to Cliffe Castle park to play every day, but it's just full of dog mess. It's appalling.

"Every day for the past two weeks she's stepped in some at the park and it gets all over, up her leg and on the pram. It's disgusting and I want something doing about it.

"The pavements on Skipton Road are covered in it and you end up stepping in it even when you're trying to avoid it.

"It's really bad to think that children can't play there safely. People should clean up after their dogs or the council should see that the play areas are kept clean."

A Bradford council spokesman said they were about to launch a crackdown on owners who allowed their pets to foul the area around the museum. "This follows a similar initiative at two other sites in Keighley - Morton cemetery and Marley stadium - which were suffering similar problems," he said.

Park rangers would also be on the alert for offenders, he added.
