Kippax Under 16s 28
Keighley Town Under 16s 22
After conceding two early tries, Town fought back valiantly to lead 16-8 at half time, thanks to a brace of tries from man of the match Joe Short. Both Short's tries were converted by Gavin Duffy who also bagged a try.
Town's 11-man team eventually buckled as a full strength Kippax side ran in three tries. Town eventually responded with a try from Anthony Montgomery, goaled by Duffy, to draw level at 22-all. However, Kippax had the last word with a try from a quick penalty tap in the last minute.
Town did not deserve to lose and are looking forward to the visit of Castleford Panthers on Sunday at Burgess Fields, Highfield, kick-off 11am.
Cougar Cubs (RL) 43
Keighley Bantams (RU) 5
In another cross-code match the first half was 'League' with the Cougar Cubs dominating from the start, although the under-strength Bantams gamely kept pushing forward.
James Boxwell scored a hat-trick inside 15 minutes with his unstoppable pace taking its toll for the Cubs. Ben Atkinson backed up well to go over, and another speed merchant, James Henkelis, powered over and Kristian Stell kicked well to convert four and give the Cubs a 28-0 lead.
Into the second 'Union' half of the game Bantams' held possession for long periods as the Cubs adjusted to the Union rules and James Sharples powered through and score.
The Bantams kept to their game and were rewarded with a try on the three-quarter hour mark to even the score for this half. One of the Cubs' newest players showed what he can really do when Ryan Russell received the ball just inside the halfway line and jinked through to score his first try. Two minutes later Sharples broke again and scored to round off the match.
Doncaster Under-14s 0
Cubs Under-14s 32
The Under-14s took on the best team that Doncaster could throw at them and came away with two points. The Cubs tackled like the top of the table team that they are, led by Danny Snowden, Richard Barr and Joe Kennedy who put in strong performances in defence. The backs attacked with pace and Doncaster could not match them in attack or defence. Special mention to Ben Carley and Adam Wilkinson who made Mark Baker's first try.
Anthony Kennedy filled in at full back for Tim Bibby (broken finger) and did a great job. Chris Thompson, Liam Gillard also had good games. Joe Milner terrorised their scrum half throughout the afternoon.
Scorers were: Adam Wilkinson, Chris Thompson, Liam Gillard, Joe Kennedy (2), Mark Baker, Ben Carley. Goals: Ben Carley (2).
Next week it is the league cup quarter-final when the Cubs have a bye.
n Keighley Under-8s had the edge against Queensbury Under-8s in a hard game. Both sets of players showed outstanding rugby skills but Keighley edged it thanks to good team work and Adam Robinson's powerful runs.
Man of the match was Thomas Goodings and top tackler was Adam Harper who worked well to stop Queensbury short of the line on a couple of occasions. The Keighley attacking line was controlled by a top performance from Charlotte Roberts at acting half.
