Keighley Albion A 26
Moldgreen 8
Albion's second string had a rare home fixture when Moldgreen travelled from Huddersfield. Good defending from Richard Hollings, Dave Nixon, Darren Jackson and John Normington kept Moldgreen at bay in the early stages.
Wayne Smith continued to show his good form and made a clean break to go 50 yards to score the first try with Glen Palmer adding the goal. Albion added to this pressure after good ground was made by Normington and Hollings for Brophy to dive over to make it 10-0.
Glen Palmer was heavily involved in the next two scores when a neat inside pass created the gap for Ali Feather to score. Palmer added the goal and from the kick off after some good running, from Smith and Chris Cooper, he carved another opening for Jackson to outstrip the defence and go 60-yards to the line. Smith added the goal.
Moldgreen came back in the final part of the first half but some good defence from Simon Bancroft, Darren Jackson and Mark Ingham shut them out to ensure Albion held a 22-0 at the break.
The second half saw Moldgreen enjoy more of the possession. Their half-back followed up a good break and saw his support play rewarded with the try. No goal was added but this gave Moldgreen the encouragement they needed and Albion were left to defend for long stretches. Hollings, Smith, Feather, Jackson and Andy Devlin defended manfully and prevented any further Moldgreen scores.
Albion's chances were few and far between but the one they did get came off another Smith break. Dave Nixon followed up the break and a good pass from him saw Ingham stride away to score Albion 's only try of the second spell.
Moldgreen scored a late try as the Albion defence tired but Albion had done enough to seal the win on the back of their first half performance.
Jackson, Smith, Palmer, Hollings and Feather stood out for the Keighley side. Next week they travel to Queensbury in the league.
Silsden Park Rangers 6
Queensbury A 24
A below-par performance from Silsden resulted in their first home league defeat of the season. Play started promising for Silsden as they piled on the pressure and were close to scoring on a number of occasions during the first 20 minutes.
However they were unable to make any of this count as an excellent defensive performance by Queensbury kept the Cobbydalers out. The game started to slip away from Silsden and Queensbury opened the scoring with and unconverted try.
Despite big defensive stints from Matt Horne and John Williams the visitors scored again on the strike of half time.
Silsden came out in the second half playing with more purpose but this didn 't last long as Queensbury got into their stride, something Silsden were struggling to do all afternoon. Another try and a penalty from Queensbury took the game out of Silsden 's reach.
Man of the match Martyn Fryers kept plugging away at the Queensbury defence. Eventually a gap was found by Matt Robinson to score Silsden 's only try which Andy Bowness converted. A final try from Queensbury wrapped the afternoon up.
Silsden will need to pick up their performance next week as they play hosts to Todmorden.
Cowling Harlequin 40
Underbank A 14
After seven weeks without a game Cowling came out all guns blazing against Underbank "A" at home.
With a total of seven tries and six goals Cowling romped to 40-14 victory.
Underbank started the action in the first minute after a penalty allowed Ian Sykes to power over but the conversion was missed.
Jimmy Anson dazzled his way to score for Cowling immediately after and Darren Greenwood converted. Jimmy Anson danced his way to another on fifteen minutes and Darren Greenwood again converted.
Paul Hirst responded for Underbank and this time Matthew Butler goaled. Just before the half Ben Clements blasted over the Underbank line and Darren added his third of the half to make it 18-10 to Harlequin at the break.
Five minutes after the restart James Alderson scored a brilliant try for Cowling and Darren Greenwood again goaled. Mick Gordge answered for Underbank but Butler failed with the conversion.
Led by a suberb performance from Carlton Farrell Cowling Harlequin now exploded into action scoring almost at will with a second from Ben Clements and the completion of his hat-trick by Jimmy Anson. Wayne Verity also scored a fantastic individual try finishing off with a classic one handed touch-down.
Darren Greenwood goaled all but one in the match.
This was definately the best team performance from Cowling Harlequin yet. With the failure of the Harlequin officials to single out a man of the match it was handed to Underbank A to decide and they selected Jimmy Anson.
Tomorrow they are away at Bank Top.
