Dougie Lampkin has gone to the top of the Indoor World Championship table - despite coming second in the latest round.

As has been the case in three out of the four trials so far, Lampkin lost in the final race despite having taken the lead in the dual lane sprint.

However, unlike Sheffield this time there was no mechanical problem, but a spectacular crash as he raced for the line cost him the win.

He was left winded and with a sore neck and shoulder, but escaped without any broken bones.

With only six relatively easy sections, a high jump and just one head to head to race the result was always going to be close with all the top riders qualifying for the final.

The four riders fought it out for top honours in front of a 5,000 capacity crowd in the 'Palais des Sport'.

Lampkin failed at a pile of railway sleepers in section four whilst Raga and Freixa remained clean. The young Spanish duo only held the advantage momentarily as Dougie 'cleaned' the next log hazard, while his two rivals both failed.

With all three level on five points dropped there was a run-off to decidethe eventual winner. All three riders cleaned the tie break section, but it was Lampkin and Raga who were fastest, although only three seconds separated all three riders.

Dougie started well in the race and held the advantage over Raga until he crashed at speed.

Runner up on the night, Lampkin still heads the championship standings, holding a narrow lead 1-point lead over Raga as the series moves on to the famous Barcelona event in early February.

"Barcelona is always a tough trial, I have won there before and will be looking to do the same again, I must if I am to keep the chasing pack at bay," Dougie said.
