A Bradford councillor has made a scathing attack on preservationists who are bitterly opposed to the construction of an Aire Valley motorway. Coun. Mrs. Margaret Carter, who represents Bingley was speaking yesterday after the latest in a number of accidents on the A650 Bradford to Keighley road. She said, " The people who don't want an Aire Valley motorway, or at least some kind of by-pass, must be barmy . A new road through the Aire Valley would saves lives by taking speeding nutcases off the A650 and out of places like Nab Wood, Bingley and Crossflatts ".

A clear sky and January sunshine has made a tremendous difference in Skipton. It has led to the first major invasion this year by motorists, motor-cyclists and cyclists. The stone setts flanking the main street were packed with parked motor vehicles, and there was a constant stream of cars passing through the town all afternoon.It is a long time since Skipton had such a January flood of vehicles. If this is a foretaste of things to come, 1953 is going to be a busy year on the roads. Dear petrol does not look like being a deterrent.
