Calls were made today for more to be done to combat the availability of guns following last night's murder.

Bradford South MP Gerry Sutcliffe said he would raise concerns with police.

"There have been a number of incidents in Bradford," said Mr Sutcliffe. "Guns are too freely available."

Bary Malik, a Bradford JP and community leader, was among a group briefed by police within hours of last night's shooting.

"We were all shocked and saddened," he said. "There was also concern that incidents where guns are used are on the increase."

Mehrban Hussain, (Con, University) whose ward covers the area where the incident took place, said gun crime was a major problem in the city.

"A lot of criminals are now carrying guns," he said. "The police have got to be stronger."
