Chairman Frank Thornton will remain committed to helping Avenue fulfil their ambitions despite stepping down from his executive responsibilities.

The Oxford-based lifelong fan took the decision due to work commitments and the pressure of long-distance travel.

Bob Robinson, the deputy chairman, has taken over the chairman's responsibilities while Phil Lawler, the new managing director, will also play an important role at the Bradford end of the operation.

"My total commitment to the club remains undiminished," said Thornton.

"For reasons of ill health and business pressures I have found it extremely difficult to properly deal with some matters affecting the club.

"I have been able to attend only a very small number of matches and I have experienced increasing difficulties in attending club meetings.

"I will attend as many matches and meetings as I can manage. I have also agreed to be available, if needed, to attend any meetings relating to stadium and promotion issues."

l Avenue won their first match of the year last night, beating Harrogate Town 1-0 with a second-half Graham Mitchell penalty.
