CHILDREN at one of Otley's reorganised primary schools are celebrating moving out of their temporary classrooms.

After six months of work, builders have now finished the new four classroom junior block as part of a £727,800 scheme at All Saints Primary School.

And although a small amount is left to be done, the children have now taken up residence in their new, plush classrooms.

Jan Gasper, head teacher, said: "It is a substantial building which means all our junior department can go into the new school.

"I'm really delighted - it is a quality environment for them."

The Lisker Drive school, formerly All Saints Infants School, became the town's church primary school after it amalgamated with All Saints Junior School, North Parade, at the end of the summer term last year.

To take the increased number of children from four to 11 years old, four new classrooms, a community room, car parking and improved sports facilities have all been added.

Dr Joan Kirkland, chairman of governors, said: "It is a good quality development with plenty of light for the key stage two children."

She added that the classrooms and cloakrooms were very large and airy and ideal for the particular age group.

"There is a community room which will act as an extension to the hall when needed and can also be closed off to make an extra room for staff and children," she added.

"They are absolutely thrilled with it."

Dr Kirkland added that parents of children at the school have also said that they are delighted with the new rooms.

"There's still a lot to do, getting the Portacabins away and getting the football pitches back, but it's going the right way with the new positive attitude of the school," she said.

"These children have had a really rough ride and we've tried to make this special for them."
