Homes and businesses across Wharfedale were left without power after strong winds blew down two high voltage electricity poles.
Electricity was cut in 299 homes yesterday from 8.30am to 4pm after gales blew down two poles near Paddock Hall Farm, on Low lane, in Stainburn.
Electricity supplies were effected in Pool-in-Wharfedale, Leathley, Farnley, Bland Hill, Timble, Fewston, Lindley Wood and also parts of Otley.
A spokesman for NPower said: "The electricity went off at 8.30am and we were hoping to sort it out within eight hours.
"Ten areas were effected. Two of the high voltage cable poles in Otley came down in the wind and were on the ground.
"Workmen were on hand to repair them. No roads had to be closed in order to carry out the repairs."
Farnley CoE School and Farnley Day Nursery were both closed after the supply remained off after lunchtime.
