Knaresborough 18, Aireborough 25
Aireborough recorded an excellent away victory over third placed Knaresborough on Saturday. Cheered on by a large following, who had travelled with them, Aireborough announced their intentions early by throwing the ball wide at every opportunity to combat the strong wind.
This soon led to a great try from the speedy Nick Stamp and only some desperate defending from the hosts keep the visitors from increasing their lead.
Playing uphill but with the wind Aireborough's pack matched their bigger opponents in all phases and excellent positional kicking from old timer Paul Mackie had Knaresborough penned back for long periods.
Further tries from Andy Martucci, Nick Stamp and Paul Exley followed to give Aireborough a comfortable lead.
However, ill discipline from the Exley brothers nearly cost Aireborough as both players were sin-binned for persistent fouling late on.
This two-man advantage enabled Knaresborough to score three late tries as they at last found their form. However the referee's whistle came just in time for Aireborough to record a win, which pushes them three places up the table.
After the match Knaresborough put on some excellent post match entertainment with Aireborough winning the inaugural pub Olympics
l On Saturday the first team are away at Hornsea
