Trojans Reserves 1, Wellington 3

Burley Trojans Reserves' promotion push finally petered out as they were given the boot by bottom club Wellington.

With only two games remaining Trojans have been overhauled by both Ilkley Reserves and Sherwood, each of whom have a number of games in hand over the Burley side.

Once again it was defensive frailty which led to Trojans' downfall and they have now conceded more goals than their lowly placed opponents.

Leading goalscorer Phil Constantine gave his side a 20th minute lead folllowing excellent work by Rob Wheeler. Constantine latched on to Wheeler's measured pass to shrug off his marker and finish with aplomb.

The visitors levelled before the break when slack marking, from a defence lacking in leadership, allowed Chris Sunley to stroll through unchallenged and beat Tim Fendyke with ease.

Trojans got off to a dreadful start in the second-half, conceding within five minutes of the re-start. A left wing free -kick was allowed to sail right through the defence and left Fendyke stranded.

Player manager Gary Shankland missed a great chance to level when he found himself with just 'keeper Jon Bell to beat but he dragged his shot wide.

It was to prove costly as the visitors hit back to extend their lead with a goal that Fendyke would rather forget. Receiving Matt Steer's back pass inside his own area the Trojans' 'keeper, under no real pressure, somehow managed to scuff his clearance straight into the path of the grateful Paul Thompson who stroked the ball into the unguarded net.

Oliver Barrand once again picked up match point and the talented midfielder continues to shine in a side which has struggled in recent weeks.

James Hoskin also distinguished himself alongside Barrand in Trojans' midfield.

l Trojans Reserves are without a game this weekend.
