Detectives in Bradford hunting the rapists of a schoolgirl were today investigating new leads after a trail-blazing phone text message appeal.
Officers said they had a good response after releasing these e-fit images of the knifepoint sex attackers and urged the public to text them with information.
The 15-year-old victim is recovering with her family after she was snatched from the street and subjected to a two-hour rape ordeal by two Asian men.
Detectives took the unusual step of asking people who recognised the suspects to contact them with phone texts - the first time it was believed to have been used by police officers in the county.
Today Detective Superintendent Phil Sedgwick, leading the investigation, said they had had a good response with about 25 calls, around half of them by text.
He said the calls had provided suggestions about the make and type of car used in the abduction and the identity of the attackers.
"The calls have provided some good lines of inquiry which we are following up. We have had around 25 calls since the appeal, about half of them have been text messages. Under the circumstances we are pleased with that."
The girl was attacked after getting lost on her way home last Saturday night. She realised she had boarded the wrong bus and got off. As she waited at a bus stop in Oak Lane, Manningham, an old white saloon car pulled up with two Asian men inside. She was dragged at knifepoint into the car and driven to a lonely location where she was raped by both men.
The teenager was dumped in Lynfield Drive, Heaton, two hours later. She was treated at hospital for a suspected fractured jaw and badly bruised face and body.
Det Supt Sedgwick said they had received several calls about the possible make and type of car involved and a couple of people had suggested names for the suspects.
He added: "The text appeal has worked quite well, although it wasn't an experiment, it was a genuine attempt to get information.
"It is a case of modern communications, rather than modern policing, everybody else does it so we thought it was worth a try.
"Some people prefer to ring and speak to us personally, but everybody has a mobile phone and others, especially busy people, would rather text."
Det Supt Sedgwick said the victim was being cared for by her family at home and still having to go to hospital for treatment. Anyone with information is urged to contact police on (01274) 376094 or text them on 07733123123
