A Cullingworth woman lost pounds in weight to raise pounds in cash for Airedale special baby care unit.

Hazel Abbott lost two stones over the course of a year for a sponsored slim that raised £320 for the hospital.

Hazel, whose two nieces and nephew all spent time in the unit, says she wanted to give something back.

She explains: "Thinking about raising money for these babies really motivated me. It's a brilliant job they do in here and any money I raised that can help them is worth it.

"I lost the weight on the Slimming World diet and went to Club Five - the gym at the Five Flags in Cullingworth.

"I'll be trying to keep the weight off now - although new equipment at the village fish and chip shop we've started running in Cullingworth means the fish and chips are 30 per cent less fat, which is good news.

"I just want to thank everyone who sponsored me really - and my family and friends for their support."

The money will be put towards a transilluminator, which detects air locks in the babies' chests.

A spokesman for the hospital says: "It's fantastic when people raise money for us like this. It is all for a good cause and the money will go to buying a new piece of equipment to replace an older machine.

"Congratulations to Hazel on losing the weight and a big thank you for doing it for the ward."
