A sex attacker has been told he could face a life sentence after he admitted carrying out three attempted rapes last year.

Nicholas Wright, 20, was arrested in October by detectives investigating a series of attacks on women in the Bingley, Shipley and Baildon areas of West Yorkshire.

The attacks sparked an intense police hunt, which included the use of more than 100 wanted posters featuring an e-fit compiled from descriptions given by victims.

A special police incident room was set up and Wright was eventually arrested at an address in Scott Lane, Riddlesden.

When he appeared before a judge at Bradford Crown Court on Monday, Wright formally entered guilty pleas to the three attempted rape charges, which relate to attacks on April 20, July 13 and August 24.

A fourth charge alleging the theft of two pairs of knickers belonging to a fourth woman was ordered to lie on the file.

Judge Roger Scott heard that Wright was a man of previous good character and agreed to adjourn his sentence for the preparation of various reports, which would include an assessment of any future danger posed by him.

Before remanding Wright back into custody, Judge Scott told him that the seriousness of the offences meant it was possible he could receive a life sentence.

One of Wright's victims was in court to hear him plead guilty to the three attacks, and Judge Scott was informed by prosecutor Richard Newbury that the two other women had also asked to be informed about his sentence date. Judge Scott decided that Wright would be sentenced on March 14.
