Councillors look set to approve a residential development in Birkenshaw.
Kirklees Council has submitted an outline application for the houses on land off Croft Street in the town, to be discussed at a meeting of the Heavy Woollen planning sub-committee meeting.
A report to be considered by members of the sub-committee states that the site has numerous constraints on its potential for development, namely the point of access, the intersection of the site by a footpath, potential noise disturbance from Birkenshaw Liberal Club and the irregular shape of the site. But it is also considered to be green-field.
"This generally degraded site is likely to be much improved by development," says the report.
"It would provide usable open space/play facilities and, in this context, also given its bounding by existing housing, the site is considered to be appropriate for development as an exception."
Kirklees Highways states in the report that due to access constraints, the site could "only really support aged persons' bungalows with a low frequency and use by vehicles."
The report concludes by recommending that a decision is delegated to officers to grant conditional outline planning permission.
