GALE force winds, two icy streams and pools of standing water turned last weekend's Soreen Stanbury Splash into a gruelling endurance test.

An amazing 240 seniors and 50 junior runners took part in a spectacular event, with the seniors covering 7-miles nand 1,200ft of climbing.

Runners had to cross the streams four times and make a hands and knees climb of Ponden Kirk.

Ian Holmes dominated again to take his ninth successive victory as he was chased home by English )ver-40s champion Dave Neill who has won the Vet's category for the last three years.

Colin Moses collected the locals trophy with a superb 13th position after battling with Robin Bradbury over most of the course.

Sharon Taylor, 23, (pictured) dethroned Pauline Munro who had won the race for the previous two years, with 200 winner Helen Johnson in picking up the V35 title in third place.

All the runners were presented with Soreen Malt Loaves and a video of the race was shown during the prize presentation at the Sun Inn.
