When the going gets tough, call for Rod Robertson, at least that's what first division side Ukrainians do.

Playing for the first time in six weeks, Robertson was picked to play for a team only two points outside a relegation place and playing away at second placed Oakbank. Even without match practice, Robertson scored a faultless max with a 21-18, 21-14 defeat of Gareth Wiles followed by wins against Katie Lightowler 21-12, 21-14 and Tom Lister 21-18, 21-16.

And he wasn't finished there, teaming up with Peter Holbrook to defeat Lightowler and Wiles 21-16, 21-19 in the doubles to almost single handedly earn his side a draw and climb two places in the table into the bargain.

The only point for Ukies that Robertson didn't have a hand in was Holbrook's 12-21, 23-21, 21-11 defeat of Lister.

Airedale Terriers suffered their tenth defeat of the season at home to Lothersdale A for whom Keith Wilkinson was in majestic mode. Two comfortable wins against Stuart Myers and Mark Emmott was followed by a fright against Paul Beck that finished with the Lothersdale player just winning 21-10, 19-21, 24-22. David Adams chipped in with wins against Myers and the unfortunate Emmott 21-19, 25-23 and Bob Davis got the better of Myers 21-12, 21-11. Points for the losers came with a win for Beck, 21-19, 13-21, 21-8 against Davis plus Emmott's 19-21, 21-16, 21-8 defeat of the same player to leave the final score 8-2 in favour of the visitors.

A crushing 9-1 defeat of Embassy B by their A team gives the victors an almost unassailable 14 point lead at the top and makes virtually certain that the title will be retained by the Bingley team. Kevin Rowe and Carl White cruised to three straight wins each against Mick Czuba, Nadim Asghar and Palminder Sandhu before teaming up to snatch the doubles 21-16, 22-24, 21-15 against Czuba and Sandhu. The B team's point came with a narrow win for Sandhu against Neil Foley 21-19, 17-21, 22-20.

In Division Two, Embassy C took on Oakworth in what proved to be an absorbing encounter. Hughie Chambers played well for the Bingley boys with a 21-11, 23-21 win against Ben Lowe followed by a defeat of Jason Procter 21-11, 21-19. Derek Briggs defeated Steve Smith 21-13, 21-16 and Proctor 21-9, 21-15 but lost to Lowe 21-8, 21-16. Jack Parkman upset Proctor 21-15, 16-21, 21-18, and this plus a doubles win for Embassy was just enough to earn them a 6-4 win to leave Oakworth still hovering above the relegation places.

Another good performance by Richard Foster kept St Peter's in it at promotion hopefuls Ilkley Road A. His treble was doubly significant in that he is the first player to defeat Roy Towler (13-21, 21-17, 21-8) in nineteen rubbers and the only player to beat the Roader other than players playing for the top team, Nemesis. Sadly for the youngster, however, the only other point for his team came with a 21-11, 14-21, 21-19 Tony Richardson win against Geoff Bartlett to leave the final score 6-4 in favour of the Riddlesden team.

Ilkley Road B and Johnson & Johnson, running away with it at the top of Division Three, both enjoyed good wins this week. Ilkley Road visited third placed Crossflatts A and finished with a 7-3 victory that would have been even better had Crossflatts not had Danny McHugh playing his best of the season. The youngster won all his side's points with wins against Rob McLean 21-12, 22-20; Nick Emblem 21-16, 22-24, 21-15 and Chris Dunn 24-26, 21-18, 21-16 to take his tally for the season to an impressive 20 from 24. John Patrick was unfortunate to lose to McLean 16-21, 21-12, 21-19 and team-mate Anthony Mann was equally luckless to fall to Emblem 21-19, 20-22, 21-18.

Johnson & Johnson did the job at home to South Craven with a 10-0 victory keeping the pressure on Ilkley Road C at the top, and with the next league match for the Gargrave outfit being at home to the leaders, the opportunity is there for them to reduce the seven point advantage currently held by the Riddlesden team.

Haworth B and Ilkley Road 'C' played out an entertaining encounter at Haworth. The tone was set for a tight match in the first when Tom Hagyard just pipped Paul Stead 21-18, 20-22, 22-20. Hagyard doubled his tally with a 21-14, 21-18 defeat of Ken Feather and his performance was matched by team-mates Brian Lowe and Ronnie Farrar. However, the Haworth team had no answer to the questions posed by the Roader's star man, Steve Ives who posted his fifth full house of the season with defeats of Hagyard and Lowe followed by a win against Farrar 18-21, 21-12, 21-17. Yet as well as Ives performed the only other Ilkley Road point came in the doubles where he teamed up with Stead in a 21-16, 22-20 defeat of Hagyard and Farrar.
