James Hare will face a tough night in Huddersfield later this month - to restore the credibility of Commonwealth boxing.

The Commonwealth council have come in for flak over the quality of their opponents. It follows Mark Hobson's ridiculously easy cruiserweight title win against Uganda's Abdul Kaddu.

The 41-year-old African looked totally out of his depth in the four rounds he lasted and made a mockery of the belt at stake.

"It's been a long time since we had anyone as poor as that," admitted council secretary Simon Block, "but he was Uganda's nominee for the rankings."

Unfortunately it is difficult to judge some African fighters on their records. But the pressure is on to make sure Hare's next welterweight defence will be against someone of quality.

The Roberttown fighter is back in action on February 22 at Huddersfield Sports Centre.

Trainer and co-manager Chris Aston said: "Obviously because of the challenger last week they have got to come up with a bigger name. We've already been offered a few tough ones for James with people mentioned like Ossie Duran and Emmanuel Clottey."

It will be Hare's third defence of the belt he won against Australian Julian Holland at the same venue ten months ago.

Big pal Dale Robinson will again be chief support and looks finally to have got his wish - a featherweight battle of Yorkshire with Leeds rival Levi Pattison. That fight could even be made up for the Commonwealth belt vacated by Jason Booth.

Derek Roche is also likely to feature on a bill which will precede Sky Sports' coverage of Mike Tyson's next outing in America.
