A Bradford motorist was today battling for his life after a head-on car smash.
James Glenn, 23, of Haworth Road, was taken to hospital suffering from serious head and chest injuries after the accident.
Today doctors at Leeds General Infirmary, where his parents were keeping a bedside vigil, said he was in a "critical but stable" condition.
Mr Glenn was driving a silver Ford Sierra on Wakefield Road, Clifton, towards the M62 on Sunday when he was in collision with another Bradford driver in a blue Vauxhall Movano van near the Old Corn Mill pub.
Police are investigating how the crash occurred.
PC Phil Eastwood, of Calderdale Road Traffic Department, said they were investigating whether Mr Glenn had been overtaking prior to the accident.
"He failed to negotiate the left-hand bend. He went into the other carriageway and hit the Movano head-on," said PC Eastwood.
His passenger Michael McNulty, 24, was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary with cuts and bruises , but later released.
Vauxhall driver Michael Herbert, 39, of Westlands Drive, Allerton, and his passenger William Crompton, 42, of Lidget Green, were also treated at hospital, then sent home.
Four paramedic crews were sent to the smash, along with a trauma doctor.
Both vehicles were destroyed in the crash and the main road was closed for four hours while officers investigated the accident.
PC Eastwood added: "We would urge drivers always to be sensible, to slow down and be careful. This was a very nasty accident."
Witnesses are asked to ring Calderdale Police on (01422) 318146
