Keeper Stefan Magnusson will today see a specialist over the knee injury that could finish his City career before it has started.
The Iceland international has an appointment with top surgeon Steve Bollen at the Yorkshire Clinic.
Magnusson, 22, lasted only three minutes of Tuesday's reserve game with Aston Villa before being stretchered off. It is understood it could be a recurrence of an injury he suffered in Denmark.
Surgery would rule out any chance of Magnusson - who signed on loan just over a week ago - playing again this season.
Gary Walsh played the first half in midweek - his first action since being sidelined in August. He will be on the bench against Brighton on Saturday as cover for Aidan Davison.
It is the fourth time this season boss Nicky Law has suffered goalkeeper injuries. Youngster Nicky Beach was carried off in a recent reserve game at Everton.
City have lost just one of the last six league games to ease the pressure on Law to dip into the loan market.
But he may be forced to look for yet another goalkeeper to cover the last three months.
