Guiseley Amateur Operatic Society have imported an authentic flavour of London's East End for their forthcoming production of the musical Me and My Girl.

They have had jellied eels shipped in from the world famous Billingsgate Fish Market in readiness for when the curtain goes up at Guiseley Theatre on Saturday, February 22.

The smash hit comedy musical, scripted by Stephen Fry, tells the story of an East Ender who inherits a country estate and some upmarket relatives to boot.

Margaret Dexter, Chairman of Guiseley Amateur Operatic Society said: "It's a bit of fun really, but we thought we'd give people the choice between ice cream which they might normally have at the interval, and some genuine East End fayre.

"The jellied eels have been purchased rom Billingsgate Fish Market in the East End where there's on business still making them. They're the Real McCoy.

"They're not to everyone's taste, it's a combination of the aspic jelly and the thought of wriggling eels that puts people off I think, but I must say, I quite like them.

"Having said that, I don't think I'll be giving up the Roast Beef and Yorkshire Puddings."

lMe and My Girl runs at Guiseley Theatre from Saturday, February 22 until Saturday, March 1, including a matinee on the second Saturday.

Tickets, priced between £6-£9 are available on 01943 875644.
