A 20-year-old man has been locked up after he paid £80 for a £15,000 car, knowing it was stolen.

Bradford Crown Court heard how Paul Wilcox bought the Toyota Camry from a young man on a Shipley estate.

The car had been taken following a burglary on August 3 last year. About a week later, police came across it outside the Cricketers pub in Shipley.

Officers began to follow the vehicle but the driver refused to stop and crashed into a parked car and a wall after a short chase.

Wilcox - one of five people in the car at that time - denied he was driving. But he admitted to police he knew the car was stolen when he bought it for £80. Two months later, he stole a Renault Clio outside a shop in Leeds Road, Bradford.

Wilcox, of Leeds Road, Windhill, Shipley, pleaded guilty to receiving the Toyota, allowing the use of a motor vehicle without insurance, theft of car keys and theft of the Renault. He was sent to a young offenders, institution for a total of 12 months.

Mitigating, Nicholas Askins told the court Wilcox was immature.
