A fundraising music marathon has been organised in memory of a Bradford mum who died of cancer.

Family and friends of Susan Illingworth hope the 11-hour event, to be held at the Rock and Heifer Inn in Thornton, on Saturday, will raise thousands of pounds for cancer care in the city.

Mrs Illingworth, who lived with her husband Clifford in Thornton, died two years ago this week from cancer of the liver and stomach.

As well as her husband, she left two sons, Richard, aged 30, and Andrew, aged 27.

The 52-year-old, who worked part time at a bakers, had been receiving chemotherapy on Ward 15 at Bradford Royal Infirmary, after being diagnosed with the disease in February 2000.

Her sister Anne Leach, of Bradford, said: "All the staff on Ward 15 were smashing with her. That is why we are raising money for them.

"We were a close family and Susan is very much missed. She was very well liked and everyone seemed to get on with her."

Last year Mr Illingworth took part in a sponsored walk to raise money for Ward 15 and now family friends, Caroline Fielding, 35, and her partner James Robinson, 27, of Egypt Road, Thornton, have decided to continue the fundraising.

They have organised a fundraising day which begins at 2pm on Saturday and will continue until 1am.

There will be a full programme of entertainment, including music from nine bands and musicians, comedy sketches, dancing and karaoke.

Admission costs £2 and there will be snacks available all day, a large raffle and an auction in the evening, as well as smaller raffles.

Caroline, said: "We hope to raise about £3,000 in memory of Susan, who received outstanding care and treatment on Ward 15.

"Sadly, Susan died two years ago, but her husband has raised money for the ward and we hope to add to his contribution."
