Haworth has been honoured for its status as a fair trade zone at a special presentation ceremony in Bradford. The village has been recognised as a fair trade zone after meeting the requirements in record time.

About 40 people from the village attended a civic reception, where they were congratulated by the Lord Mayor of Bradford.

Among others, the Parsonage, businesses, schools and churches have all been involved in scooping the status, as well as the village trust and the parish council.

Rita Verity, part of Haworth's fair trade steering group, explained: "We had a great evening. It was lovely that the hard work of the village was recognised by the mayor.

"It was a well supported event and there were talks on fair trade generally as well as Haworth specifically.

"We are really pleased with achieving the status and have lots planned to celebrate fair trade fortnight."

Fair trade fortnight is a national event from March 3 to March 16, and there will be lots of activities planned for people of all ages and tastes throughout the village.

Rita added: "There will be something happening every day for everyone. We are really excited about it and will give out more details later on.

"The whole thing just seems to have clicked. People are really keen to get involved and have recognised the enormity and the potential of what we are doing here."
